Presented by Ron A. Brown, senior philanthropic advisor for gift planning, Columbia University

André R. Donikian, J.D., attorney and member of the New York Bar, is considered one of planned giving's top five pioneers, and his efforts as an entrepreneur, planned giving expert, and educator garnered him a national reputation. As a forefather of the field, André was among the first attorneys to interpret the philanthropic implications of the Tax Reform Act of 1969. One of André's most significant professional achievements was founding Pentera. Inc. - a company known for its high-quality and innovative marketing resources - which he started in 1975 and entrusted to his daughter, Claudine A. Donikian, in the mid-2000s to run and to bring into the digital age. The gifts stimulated by the marketing ideas in Pentera's materials would no doubt total in the billions of dollars.

Much emphasis in planned giving is now on gifts involving retirement funds. André was the very first to discuss the tax cost of passing retirement funds to heirs and the advantages of making charitable gifts with them. He also called attention to the advantages of contributing distributions of company stock from retirement funds.

André is famous for his charisma and engaging public speaking skills. Although he is one of the real technical experts in the field, his advice has never been esoteric but rather has been grounded and pragmatic - with appreciation and empathy for the planned giving professional. His obvious mastery of the subject matter along with his charm and wit make him able to effortlessly engage people in material that doesn't easily lend itself to engagement. He is an industry icon and is truly a "gift planning guru."

Davida Isaacson is President of Davida Isaacson Consulting Inc.  Prior to the formation of her own company Davida was Principal and Senior Consultant with Myerberg Shain and Associates.  Formerly she served as Executive Director of the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest, where she raised $12 million in major and planned gifts in 18 months. Davida’s most beloved position was her first in planned giving, at WNET, Channel 13, which she landed as a direct result of a PPGGNY introduction.

She is a nationally recognized lecturer on major gift and planned gift topics and is an assistant adjunct professor at the George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising at New York University.  The university presented Davida an “Award in Teaching Excellence” in February, 2004 and recognized her ten year teaching tenure in April, 2008.  In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Davida is the faculty coordinator for the Center’s summer intensive certificate program.  In this role she is responsible for creating the schedule of classes and finding competent faculty and special speakers to participate in the month long program.

Davida has served as officer, including President, of the Planned Giving Group of Greater New York and on the Board of the National Committee for Planned Giving.  While serving on the NCPG Board Davida headed the Research Committee which conducted a premier study of the motivations of planned gift donors.  Her philanthropic endeavors extend to her current service on the board of the Partners for Health Foundation based in Montclair, NJ.
