Nuts and Bolts Seminar: An In-Depth Discussion on Estate Planning Basics

This presentation will provide a solid understanding on the basics of estate planning for those wishing to gain a detailed overview of the field and practical advice for their own estate planning. The presentation will include a discussion of the typical documents that make up a client’s estate plan and the two methods of passing property at death. Jill will focus on the common mistakes clients make in their estate planning and how to avoid them. 

This session is eligible for CLE, CPE and CFRE credit.

Advanced Seminar: Cryptocurrency: A 360° View

Learn more about the developments in the world of cryptocurrency, cryptoassets, ICOs and token offerings and its current state from a wide range of perspectives. The presentation will cover legal and regulatory aspects, the evolving treatment of cryptoassets from a tax standpoint, and how are the regulators addressing issues from trading to custody. 

This session qualifies for CPE, CLE and CFRE credit.

About Our Speakers

Jill Miller, JD

Jill Miller, the principal of Jill Miller & Associates, P.C., focuses on formulating sophisticated and highly personalized estate plans for individuals and families with the objectives of minimizing estate taxes and family discord. She also has a particular expertise in estate matters affecting non-US citizens and non-traditional families. Jill takes a detailed and practical approach to the administration of estates. Complicated probate issues are addressed and resolved. Estate tax returns are prepared to minimize the risk of audit.

 Jill founded the firm in January of 2004, after working for over a decade in trusts and estates law.

Jill is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and is a frequent lecturer on estate planning at both private and public symposia. She has presented or spoken at programs sponsored by the American Bar Association (Division of Taxation), the New York State Bar Association, the Financial Planning Association of New York, The American Heart Association Conference on Estate Planning and Administration, Fordham Law School, Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York, Lorman Education Services, Lawline, CW Post University Tax and Accounting Institute and New York State Society of CPAs. Jill is currently the Director of the Estate Planning Clinic and adjunct professor of Law at Cornell Law School and was an Adjunct Professor at Fordham Law School, teaching “Trusts and Estates” from 2005 to 2014. Jill is “AV Preeminent” Peer Review rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is named as a Super Lawyer.

Jill and her husband, Michael, have two daughters, Sarah and Dana. Jill enjoys her book club, being a mother, fitness, gardening, painting, and watching movies.

  

Andrew Ray, JD

Andrew Ray is the leader of Morgan Lewis’ interdisciplinary corporate practice in Washington, DC, and is both a member of the firm’s Technology Industry group and co-leader of the  Fintech Initiative, which is made up of approximately 120 lawyers spread across 30 offices, who represent hundreds of clients operating around the globe in matters ranging from transactions to technology to regulatory approvals and compliance, as well as providing key supporting capabilities, including in the areas of intellectual property, outsourcing, data privacy issues, and antitrust. Andy represents public and private companies, financial sponsors, and management teams in a broad range of industries, including, fintech, technology, digital health, financial services, life sciences, real estate, and the not-for-profit sector. Various industry publications recognize Andy as a leader in both M&A and in communications law, among other fields. He recently led the team representing Oculus VR in its $2 billion sale to Facebook, which was named the M&A Advisor M&A Deal of the Year.
