Assistant Director of Gift Planning

Stony Brook University Advancement seeks an Assistant Director of Gift Planning to join its growing development team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Gift Planning, the Associate will play a significant role in increasing the number of known estate gifts to the University through the successful identification, cultivation, and solicitation of viable prospects. The ideal candidate will be both a self-started and a team player who can successfully collaborate with other Advancement colleagues in presenting planned gift options to prospects.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Meet and exceed specific measurable goals for face-to-face donor visits and donor-related contacts, solicitations, and verified bequests and planned gifts.
  • Prepare gift planning documents relating to the solicitation and closing of charitable gift annuities.
  • Review legal documents necessary to close planned gifts.
  • Draft correspondence to donors, personal representatives, trustees, attorneys and insurance companies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three years of full time professional fundraising experience in gift planning, estate planning, trust and estate management, charitable giving tax law, major gift fundraising or other directly related fields.
