Marilyn Van Houten began working as director of planned giving at NYU Langone Medical Center in 2004, and was promoted to senior director in 2007.  Before joining NYU Langone, she served as the associate director of planned giving at The Metropolitan Opera, where for seven years she combined her legal experience with her love of music.

Ms. Van Houten received a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and later earned her Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey.  She clerked for the Honorable Maurice J. Gallipoli, presiding civil judge of Hudson County, New Jersey, and practiced law for six years concentrating in commercial litigation.

She is vice president of the Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York and has served as the organization’s programming chair for 2014-15 and as a co-chair of the Innovation Track for the 2014 Planned Giving Day conference.  An avid hiker, Ms. Van Houten also uses her spare time to pursue her interests in music.
