From the President

Giving is not just about making a donation.

It's about making a difference.

Kathy Calvin

Dear Friends,

The new tax laws have brought some new questions for charitable giving. One such question is how do we still encourage planned gifts in light of the increased federal estate tax exemption? We need to remember it really more about our donors making a difference in what is meaningful to them.

Please note that our next two monthly meetings will be held at the 3 West Club.

The February breakfast session on 2/21/2018 focuses on the gift annuity audit, a topic we had not featured recently. Our panel of experts Stacy Sulman, JD, Meryl Cosentino, JD and John Bacon, JD, and Del Boufi from State Street, will discuss the audit process and give you best practices from the charity and financial institution perspectives. Even if you aren’t currently involved with a gift annuity program, this is a fabulous opportunity to learn about the ch allenges and pitfalls, and how to do it right. You never know what your next career move will be and what kinds of tidbits you will learn from this unique session.

The March meeting includes sessions on fundamentals of planned giving with Davida Isaacson, donor advised funds with Joanne Pipkin from the Greater Washington Community Foundation, and Women and Money with Patrica M. Annino, Esq. from Boston. Encourage your colleagues to join you and attend to hear these renowned speakers.

A reminder to save Monday, 5/7/2018, for Planned Giving Day, our annual all-day conference. Ronald J. Schiller, our Keynote Speaker from the Aspen Leadership Group, will present on Helping Generous People Give Wisely, Successfully and Joyfully. And Sandra G. Swirski, Esq., our plenary speaker will challenge us with Tax Reform Hangover and what the rising federal deficits means for philanthropy. The nine track speakers are set and promise to offer something for everyone. The entire schedule will be posted on the PPGGNY website soon.

You can still sign up for a half price membership and qualify for a discounted rate for PG Day. We rely on our members and thank you for being a part of this amazing group!

Cheers!
Marilyn
